The city of Goodyear is looking for a Deputy Director of Engineering to manage the design and construction of complex city-initiated infrastructure and building projects. This position is responsible for maintaining city practices and resources which include ensuring compliance with agreed upon performance requirements, timelines, and commitments made.
This position is responsible for overseeing the city's Capital Improvement Program by evaluating, recommending and implementing best practices for the administration of the Capital Improvement Program in order to ensure delivery of on-time and on-budget projects. This individual is responsible for establishing project scopes, completing construction and communicating with stakeholders. This individual will coordinate the efforts of city leadership and staff, inspectors, design teams, construction teams related to all project activities. This position may respond on behalf of the Director of Engineering in her/his absence. This position will oversee the Capital Improvement Plan Manager and Project Managers.
The ideal candidate will be registered as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in the State of Arizona, and have 8 or more years of experience in the construction of public facilities including project cost estimates, value engineering, construction reviews and inspection procedures. In addition, have at least five years of experience in supervising the work of other project managers or similar staff in the public sector. The candidate will have experience working in a collaborative environment with numerous stakeholders, team members and departments ensuring successful and beneficial outcomes. The ideal candidate will also be self motivated; possess excellent interpersonal/human relations skills; and demonstrate great writing, comprehension, and presentation skills.
