MAJOR FUNCTIONS: The County of Volusia is seeking a Civil Engineer III for the Solid Waste Division. This position will be located at the Tomoka Landfill in Port Orange, Florida; and will be responsible for administrative and professional engineering work in planning, coordinating, and reviewing all projects associated with the operation, maintenance, and capital improvements to a solid waste management facility. **This position is posted on a continuous basis and may close without notice** ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES: NOTE: (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Registration as a Florida Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering OR a licensed Professional Engineer in another state with the ability to obtain Florida registration within six (6) months of hire AND five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, planning, designing, and construction including one (1) year at a supervisory level. *Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license at the time of hire. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
ADA REQUIREMENTS: Physical Demands: Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull ten pound objects occasionally Ability to walk, bend, climb, kneel, reach, crawl, talk, grasp; finger dexterity. Visual acuity (peripheral vision, depth perception, color acuity) necessary to operate a motorized vehicle and review complex schematics. Limited requirement to traverse construction sites with uneven terrain. Environmental Demands: Primarily inside work. Limited exposure to construction sites with noise/vibrations, insects, dust, fumes, chemicals, inclement weather (heat, humidity, cold, rain) Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend technical and scientific instruments, documents, and literature; legal documents, statutes, instruments; blueprints, layouts, mechanical drawings; memos, instructions, manuals. Ability to write business letters, evaluations, summaries. Ability to speak clearly and concisely relating information, details and procedures to layman; conversant in theory and practices of discipline. Ability to perform advanced mathematical functions (geometry, trigonometry.) Ability to identify and resolve problems.
