The City of San Mateo Public Works Department is looking for a Field Maintenance Manager
Why Join our Department? The Public Works Department is comprised of the Engineering and Facilities Services Division (EFSD) and the Environmental Services Division (ESD). Each division is led by a Deputy Director reporting to the Director of Public Works. The department is responsible for the City’s major capital projects and infrastructure including streets, street lights, traffic signals, sewer and storm conveyance systems, wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, a major lagoon, and dams and levees. The Public Works Department is committed to high performance levels and standards, utilizing best practices relative to performance management and team-oriented approaches. What You’ll Do The Field Maintenance Manager reports to the ESD Deputy Director and manages and provides oversight in the operations, planning and development, directing and implementation of construction, maintenance and repair services for both wastewater and stormwater conveyance systems, and streets and traffic systems and related programs. The successful candidate will also develop and manage program standard operating procedures, goals, and objectives and priorities for each functional unit; and monitors program implementation through development of approved standards of performance.

Who You Are
- A highly motivated individual who possesses knowledge of basic elements of civil engineering as they relate to street drainage and collection system maintenance and repair, public streets, traffic control and street lighting.
- An individual who possesses the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines and learn and effectively apply applicable, laws and regulations pertaining to assigned programs and applicable City policies and procedures.
- An individual who possesses knowledge of types and level of maintenance and repair activities generally performed in a street, traffic, drainage and sewer system maintenance program and the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in street, sewer, traffic and storm drain system maintenance and repair activities.
- An individual who is knowledgeable of federal and state regulations and requirements as they relate to wastewater and stormwater conveyance systems, including regulatory permit requirements.
- An individual who possesses the ability to interpret sketches, penciled layouts and blueprints and prepare plans and work schedules.
- An individual who desires to contribute to a positive work environment that fosters motivation, collaboration, coaching, and engagement of our workforce.
What You Bring
- You possess at least five years of increasingly responsible experience in wastewater and stormwater conveyance system maintenance and street and traffic related maintenance programs, including two years of supervisory experience.
- You possess the equivalent to completion of bachelor’s degree in management, business, environmental sciences or a related field.
- You possess a valid California driver’s license.
