Senior Civil Engineer This recruitment is open to the public and is being held to establish an eligible list to fill current and future Senior Civil Engineer vacancies within OC Public Works and John Wayne Airport. This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications. OC PUBLIC WORKS OC Public Works provides services on a regional basis to unincorporated areas, to cities, and to other County agencies and departments. The primary mission of the department is to protect and enrich the community through efficient delivery and maintenance of public works infrastructure, planning, and development services. ENGINEERING SERVICES Engineering Services deliver design, construction, maintenance, and monitoring services for the County. JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT John Wayne Airport is a modern, 20 gate, medium hub commercial and general aviation airport owned and operated by the County of Orange. We are located in a vibrant and economically viable area of Southern California and home to seven commercial airlines, one commuter operator, two all-cargo carriers, two full service FBOs and over 450 general aviation aircraft. John Wayne Airport operates as an enterprise fund self-supported through revenues it generates and receives no monies from the County General Fund. Click here for more information about John Wayne Airport Click here for more information about the County of Orange THE AIRPORT ENGINEERING DIVISION Airport Engineering reviews and approves the design and preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates in connection with the construction and maintenance of public works projects involving John Wayne Airport runways and taxiways, terminal buildings, parking structures, roadways, traffic control devices, bridges, drainage structures, sewer systems, water and fuel distribution systems, and reviews and provides technical approval of tenant improvements. THE OPPORTUNITIES OC Public Works and John Wayne Airport have an excellent opportunity for Senior Civil Engineers to perform a variety of field and office professional civil engineering work. Senior Civil Engineer is the first supervisory level in the professional civil engineering class. A Senior Civil Engineer is distinguished from Civil Engineers by their full supervisory responsibility of a section or unit of professional or technical staff. A Senior Civil Engineer is responsible for conducting and reviewing traffic engineering studies for public roadways; negotiating and obtaining complex regulatory approvals for public works projects from multiple regulatory agencies; planning, organizing, and reviewing the design and preparation of drawings, specifications, and estimates in connection with public works engineering projects involving airports, highways, bridges, storm drains, and flood control structures; coordinating the inspection of public works structures under construction or repair; supervising and preparing detailed schedules and managing resources for project implementation. RECRUITMENT PROCESS SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE SCREENING (Refer/Non-Refer): Supplemental responses will be screened for qualifications that are highly desirable and most needed to successfully perform the duties of the job. Only those applicants that demonstrate the desirable qualifications will be referred to the next step. STRUCTURED ORAL INTERVIEW (Weighted 100%): Candidates will be asked to put together a training module to present at the interview. Presentations and responses to interview questions will be rated by a panel of job knowledge experts. Each candidate's rating will be based on responses to a series of structured questions designed to elicit the candidate's qualifications for the job. Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.
