Located in one of the most spectacular and scenic areas of Washington State, the City of Port Angeles, (pop. 19,000), is situated on the northern edge of the Olympic Peninsula along the shore of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The Olympic Peninsula is home to spectacular natural attractions ranging from a lush, magnificent rainforest, to rugged mountain splendor and wide ocean beaches. Port Angeles is a tourist destination and international gateway via ferry to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Under administrative direction of the City Manager, the Public Works & Utilities Director will manage and direct the work of the City of Port Angeles Public Works & Utilities Department, comprised of Street Maintenance, Stormwater, Equipment Services, Water and Wastewater systems, including treatment plants, electric distribution, including purchasing of power, solid waste collections, transfer station, recycling and landfill management, engineering services, and conservation programs for water and electrical. The Public Works & Utilities Department employs 93 FTE's and has a 2018 budget of $57 million. A bachelor’s degree in a related field, and five or more years of experience in a management position, preferably in public works, is required. A master’s degree in a related field is desirable. The selected candidate must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license or obtain one within 30 days of hire. Candidates may possess any combination of relevant education and experience that demonstrates their ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
