Position Description PLEASE NOTE: Professional Engineer's may receive premium pay up to ten percent (10%) above base rate when area of assignment requires specialized expertise or supervision of other professional engineers, as determined by management The City of Fresno is currently recruiting for dynamic and skilled Professional Engineers. Under direction, incumbents perform technical and professional engineering work involving design, investigation, development and construction of public and private structures. Considerable judgment, latitude and initiative are expected in order to complete projects. Incumbents may supervise, coordinate, and evaluate the work performed by lower level staff. The ideal candidates must be highly motivated, responsive, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have experience managing multiple capital improvement projects and tasks. Professional Engineer positions are utilized in various City departments; therefore, the eligible list established from this recruitment may be utilized to fill current and future vacancies which may be in Public Works, Public Utilities or the Department of Resource Management. The current openings are in the Department of Development and Resource Management and the Department of Public Works. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS, PROJECT MANAGEMENT DIVISION The Professional Engineer need in the Public Works Project Management Division will be responsible for the design, management, construction, and consultant oversight for City CIP projects. The candidate must possess knowledge of Federal Funding programs such as Federal Highway Administration and Measure C funding programs through Cal Trans. (Civil Engineer or Traffic Engineer only) DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS, WATER DIVISION: The Department of Public Utilities-Water Division Professional Engineers position will be responsible for the design, management, and construction of time sensitive CIP projects, master plan updates and consultant oversight for drinking water systems and facilities. Other assignments include the review of private development proposals, and coordination of projects and programs with other City Departments and outside agencies. (Any Engineer license registrations will be considered for this position.) DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENT AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT: The Building and Safety Services Division of the Development and Resource Management Department is seeking a Professional Engineer for commercial plan check operations. The position will be responsible for reviewing plans and structural calculations for the design of complex commercial and residential buildings and structures in accordance with State and Local building code requirements. The ideal candidate shall possess a strong background and experience in structural engineering principles and design concepts. (Only Civil Engineer or Structural Engineer registrations will be accepted for this position.) The Requirements These are entrance requirements to the competitive examination and do not assure a place on the eligible list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify. TO QUALIFY, an applicant must have: Valid registration as a professional engineer by the State of California at time of application. Proof of registration must be uploaded to your online application.
