The City of Baxter (POP. 8,318) is part of the Baxter/Brainerd Micropolitan Statistical Area that has a population of over 91,000. Baxter, a regional center located in the heart of the central lakes area of Minnesota, is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant City Engineer. The primary responsibilities for this position are for activities associated with municipal engineering, which includes but is not limited to the supervision and coordination of staff and consultants on the Engineering Division’s daily operations; design and construction management of public improvement projects; oversight of the City’s MS4 and pavement management programs; review and process residential, commercial, and industrial building permits and development agreements; provide engineering guidance on planning and building department submittals; and handle resident inquiries.

Vacation The Employee will start with a base vacation of 12 days per year and accrue one additional day of vacation per year of service to a maximum of 24 days per year.
Sick Leave Employees shall earn sick leave with pay at the rate of one working day for each month of service. Sick leave shall accumulate to a maximum of 960 hours. Health Insurance

Disability Insurance Long-term disability after 30 continuous days of full-time employment provided by the City.
Life Insurance $30,000 of term life insurance coverage provided by the City. Employee can purchase additional coverage.
Employee shall contribute to a Health Care Savings Plan.
The City shall contribute $30 per month towards the employee’s health care savings plan.
Severance The City shall pay 50% of an employee’s unused sick leave for employees who meet the requirements of a qualified retirement plan and are in good standing with the City as described in the Personnel Policy. Payment will be made to the employee’s health care savings account.
Retirement Government employees are required to participate in PERA (Public Employees Retirement Association) defined benefit plan, if eligible. For 2018, 6.5% of gross wages are contributed by the employee and the employer contributes 7.5% under the Coordinated Plan. Optional Benefits
