In the heart of the gold country, Calaveras County covers 1036 square miles and is home to a population of 48,000 residents. The Public Works Department is responsible for 690 miles of roadway and 69 bridges and encompasses the divisions of Engineering, Roads and Bridges, Equipment Service, Surveying, and Administration. The department’s activities are supported by 63 FTE and a projected FY2018-19 operating budget of $30 million.
The County is seeking a professional Director of Public Works and Transportation with exceptional leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. Proven success in this highly visible position is expected. The Director will play a role in the day to day operation and will ensure the Department’s operations and priorities are met.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, civil engineering or related field and five or more years of professional and increasingly responsible public works experience in a city, county or other public sector employment. Two of the required years must have been in a supervisory or management role.
The salary for the Director of Public Works and Transportation is $151,717 annually with a 2% COLA in January 2019. Salary is supplemented by an attractive benefits package.
