OPEN UNTIL FILLED - 3 POSITIONS AVAILABLE The City of Fresno is currently recruiting for Supervising Professional Engineers. Under direction, the incumbents will plan, coordinate and supervise the operation of an engineering section, involving design, investigation, development and construction of public and private structures, mechanical equipment and systems. Current positions are in the Department of Development and Resource Management AND Department of Public Utilities AND the Department of Public Works, however the eligible list created from this recruitment will be used to fill current future vacancies in other City departments. DEVELOPMENT AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: The Supervising Professional Engineer needed in the Building and Safety Division will be responsible for providing supervision and oversight of policies and procedures related to the operations of the Division. This includes supervision and oversight of Commercial Plan Check operations and maintaining statistical information related to processing timelines, production volume, and other building permit data, personnel issues, and providing support to the Building Official for technical and Code interpretation issues. The ideal candidate shall possess knowledge of the California Building Code Standards and other State and Local regulations related to building construction and land development. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES: The Utilities, Planning and Engineering Division incumbent will be responsible for providing oversight to the process and procedures used by engineering professionals to ensure appropriate planning, design and construction of water and wastewater-oriented public works projects. The incumbent will lead and is responsible for delivering results through a team of engineers and technicians. This position functions as a supervisory engineer for a group of engineers and designers/drafters, and as a senior level engineer responsible for technical aspects of planning and CIP project implementation. Knowledge and experience with the Fresno Metropolitan Water Resources Management Plan, Groundwater Management Plan, Urban Water Management Plan and the Central Valley Project Contract, is preferred. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS: The Design Services section of the Public Works Engineering Division is in need of a Supervising Professional Engineer to work in a multi-faceted capacity designing Capital projects, managing engineering consultants, taking responsibility for special assignments that benefit the entire Public Works Department, and other assignments as needed. Typical job duties will include handling State and Federal paperwork, coordination with Caltrans Local Assistance staff, preparation of exhibits and cost estimates for grant applications, management of a small group of design staff who may be reporting to this position directly or working in a subordinate capacity to this position. Other responsibilities will include peer-review of production work, reports, construction plans or other technical documents prepared by staff members, attending meetings and making field visits to project locations. The ideal candidate will have exceptional knowledge of roadway geometric design, traffic signal layout and design, water and sewer distribution system design, be familiar with the Caltrans Highway Design Manual, California MUTCD, California Building Code, State and Federal ADA design standards and be highly proficient with AutoCAD Civil3D 2018 and Microsoft Office, including Project, Excel, Word and Access. All candidates will have exceptional oral and written communication skills and be willing to make presentations to local governing agencies, including City Council. ============================================ REQUIREMENTS: These are entrance requirements to the competitive examination and do not assure a place on the eligible list.
