The City of North Port is currently seeking an Emergency Vehicle Technician for our Department of Public Works Fleet Division. North Port is a growing City located in beautiful southwest Florida. We have an amazing work environment. This position starts at a salary of $44,337.64/year, negotiable based on experience, plus benefits. The cost of living in North Port is very affordable and the State of Florida does not have a state income tax.
Job functions include:
• Performs repair and maintenance of Fire Department and Police Department equipment.
• Inspects, diagnoses, repairs and/or replaces components in drive trains, suspensions, fuel systems, electrical systems, air systems, hydraulic systems, brake systems, and all other systems found on fire apparatus, ambulances, police and other department vehicles.
• Reads and interprets manuals and other materials related to repair and maintenance of fire apparatus, ambulances and other department vehicles.
• Opens work orders, keeps and maintains records, reports, and service logs.
• Performs services and repairs at other locations.
• Repairs minor body damage.
• Installs emergency equipment on new vehicles.
• Performs occasional machine lathe work and welding as needed.
• Maintain parts inventory on service truck.
• Works well without direct supervision, must be self-motivated and proactive in completing duties of the position.
• Provides guidance and assistance to customers.
• Applicants must possess appropriate current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications and Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certifications for Level II EVT status for Fire Apparatus Technician.
