Opportunity The City of Tualatin seeks a City Engineer looking to make a difference in the community by providing progressive and innovative leadership. The ideal candidate has an excellent reputation as a creative problem solver who enjoys collaborating and building consensus. The City Engineer provides strong technical leadership on a wide range of municipal engineering solutions including water, streets, sewer, and stormwater projects. Reporting to the Public Works Director, the City Engineer manages a team of six including three Engineering Associates, two Engineering Technicians II, and a Project Engineer. The Public Works Department was reorganized to include the Engineering Division alongside the Storm/Sewer/Streets Division and the Water Division. This newly created position works collaboratively with the other divisions to manage infrastructure from cradle to grave.
The City Engineer is well rounded with wide-ranging experience in typical municipal projects such as streets, sidewalks, bicycle facilities, water distribution, sewer collection, stormwater management, subdivisions, and commercial development. The ideal candidate brings a combination of public and private sector experience and enjoys working on a wide variety of projects. The successful candidate easily connects the dots and understands how the various pieces of the projects fit together. The City Engineer monitors best practices in order to drive efficiency and inform decision making.
Qualifications A minimum of five years demonstrated progressively responsible experience as a Professional Engineer with a thorough knowledge of Civil Engineering principles and practices as related to a wide variety of public works projects. The successful candidate must possess a valid Professional Engineer’s License and, if licensed in another state, must have the ability to attain an Oregon PE in a reasonable timeframe. A minimum of two years in a supervisory capacity is required. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university, or any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the work may be substituted.
