Located along the shores of the Columbia, Yakima, and Snake Rivers in sunny southeastern Washington, Kennewick is a fast-growing community of nearly 80,000. Kennewick, along with the neighboring cities of Richland and Pasco, comprise the Tri-Cities metropolitan area which has a population of nearly 275,000. The Tri‐Cities area is one of the nation’s top wine regions and boasts more than 200 wineries within a 50‐mile radius, producing some of the finest wines in the country. The City of Kennewick's Public Works Department is made up of several divisions, including Engineering, Utility Services, Development Services, Administration, Streets, Stormwater and Traffic. The department has 70.5 FTE’s and operates on a 2017/2018 budget of $91.5 million. Under the direction of the Public Works Director, the Transportation Manager oversees 4 FTE’s and is responsible for the management and oversight of the Traffic Division, including all planning, design, operations and maintenance of the city’s traffic and transportation system and infrastructure. The Traffic Division has a 2017/2018 budget of $6.8 million. The Transportation Manager is expected to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with consulting engineers, designers, contractors, Federal, State and local agency representatives, property owners, utility companies, the general public and other city employees. A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field, and a minimum of five years of experience in traffic and transportation activities, including a minimum of three years of supervisory experience, is required. Candidates must possess a Professional Engineer’s license in the State of Washington or have the ability to obtain one by comity within six months of hire.
