POSITION PURPOSE The Utilities Technician - Irrigation/Landscape and Reclaimed Water System position is a skilled technical position that handles the day-to-day tasks related to irrigation/landscape inspections and the reclaimed water system, including customer support and regulatory compliance. This is a temporary, full time, benefited position that is approved for a period of up to and no longer than two (2) years. This position will report to the Reclaimed System Coordinator, supporting coordination of reclaimed water utility planning, operations, and administration. Key tasks will include responding to service complaints from existing reclaimed water customers, monitoring reclaimed site installations of new landscape and irrigation, inspections of existing and new reclaimed systems to meet regulatory compliance, spill response, and assisting with planning expansions of the reclaimed water system. Work will be performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and technical guidelines, and is reviewed by supervisors through conferences, reports, and results obtained. This is a safety sensitive position. The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. While not required for the temporary position, candidates who possess or obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License during employment and participate in city snow removal will be eligible for higher compensation in the pay range (further details will be provided during the interview process). The City of Westminster offers a bonus of up to $1,500 per year depending on the employee's fluency in Spanish, Hmong, and/or Laotian. CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications Graduation from high school or completion of GEDMust possess a valid driver's license, provide proof of a safe driving record, and maintain a safe driving record for continued employmentPrevious experience with irrigation systems, drainage, soils, and the proper use and placement of landscape materialsAbility to interpret construction plans, specifications and other contract documents pertaining to the design of public infrastructure, site planning, and landscaping improvementsDemonstrate strong customer service skills Preferred: Certified Landscape TechnicianPrevious experience working for a regulatory agency or landscape/irrigation scienceTwo (2) or more years of experience in Water or Wastewater UtilityTwo (2) or more years of experience with landscape or irrigation best practicesCompetency in the use of GIS and ExcelCPR/first aid knowledgeCollege-level coursework in engineering, environmental studies, science, business, landscape architecture or design, or a related fieldPossession of a Commercial Driver's License with the following endorsements: Air Brakes, Tanker, and Combination Vehicle/Class "A" License and the ability to serve on a snow-removal crew (NOTE: this is not a requirement and candidates who are able to meet this requirement before or during the two year temporary placement will be offered additional compensation – additional details will be provided during the interview process)Previous experience with reclaimed water systems Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
