The City of Morro Bay is seeking a talented, motivated ABOUT THE CITY Incorporated in 1964, Morro Bay is a general law City located on California’s Central Coast, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles on Scenic Highway 1. With population just over 10,000, the City has the City Council/Manager form of government. Morro Bay is blessed with a temperate year-round climate, which makes it an ideal location for a variety of recreational activities. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Morro Bay Public Works Department stands behind the City’s motto “Rock Solid Commitment” in their efforts to honor their obligations and responsibilities to serve the public; they take pride in maintaining the highest standards in service. The Department consists of Engineering & Administration, Capital Projects, Vehicle Maintenance, Consolidated Maintenance, Transit, Solid Waste & Recycling, and Utilities (Water, Wastewater Collection, Wastewater Treatment, and a future Water Reclamation Facility). The Departments’ combined annual budget is $14 million out of a total city budget of $50.2 million and consists of 36 full and part-time employees. ABOUT THE POSITION This recruitment is to fill one vacancy at the Engineering Technician III, Assistant or Associate Civil Engineer level. Under administrative direction of the Senior Civil Engineer or Public Works Director, the successful candidate will be asked to perform engineering work for environmental, water, sewer, and other public works projects and programs ensuring technical competence and compliance with all current codes and criteria; assist in the selection and supervision of consultants; may supervise support staff; serve as project manager for capital improvement projects as needed; and to do related work as required. ROCK SOLID COMMITMENT DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Ability to: To communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with employees, consultants, other governmental agency representatives, City officials and the general public; ability to conduct necessary engineering research and compile comprehensive reports. Special Requirement: Must be physically capable of moving about on construction work sites, and under adverse field conditions. Must possess a valid California Driver’s license Associate Engineer: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and minimum of two years previous professional civil engineering experience; registration as a Registered Civil Engineer with the State of California. Assistant Engineer: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or closely related field; or three years of engineering work experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT). BENEFITS PERS 2ndTier: Classic Member 2% @ 60; 7% member’s contribution is paid by employee, average highest 36 months: sick leave credit. Insurance: The City has a cafeteria-style health benefits program through PERS with a contribution of up to $1460/family; dental, life and vision programs are also offered with a maximum contribution of $171.55/family. Conditions of Employment: Employees in this classification are under an Agency Shop agreement that requires the employee to either join or pay a service fee to the Service Employees’ International Union Local 620.
