THE POSITION Under the direction of a registered professional engineer, performs professional level engineering duties in support of transportation designs, projects, programs and studies.
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
Working Conditions: May work shifts on days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
REQUIREMENTS Education and Work Experience: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering or a closely related field and two (2) years of full-time demonstrated professional level engineering experience.
Licensing and Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid Class C Driver's License at the time of appointment. An Engineering Intern Certificate and/or Professional Engineering License is preferred.
Background Investigation: Employment with the Regional Transportation Commission in this position is contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, including qualifying education/experience verification, social security trace, criminal history records review, and a driving history records check.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Reviews design plan submittals from local agencies that are for projects funded by the RTC. Administers Operations and Specifications Subcommittee meetings. Reviews traffic impact analyses and development agreements of local agencies. Audits and approves project invoices in accordance with policies and procedures. Attends and participates as a representative of the RTC in project related meetings. Participates in professional development sessions or seminars; stays current on trends, innovations and legal developments in the planning field. Operates a variety of office equipment, to include computers and associated software. Conducts and independently completes a variety of assigned special projects as assigned by supervisor. Provides information and assistance to internal and external customers as required. Performs supervisory and professional Traffic Engineering work in connection with traffic studies, design, investigations, safety and operational reviews. Directs and participates in the drafting, design, and use of traffic analyze software for traffic flow maps, charts, channelization, modeling, signal and progression plans for traffic signals. Analyzes and interprets traffic data and assists in making recommendations and solutions to traffic engineering problems. All other duties as assigned.
