Job Position: Superintendent of General Operations of Public Works. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide functional, operational, and technical management, supervise field operations and personnel, assist with enforcing policies and procedures, and monitor and evaluate Department processes and systems to protect customers and insure preferred outputs, out-comes, and quality infrastructures and services. This is a highly skilled management position responsible for providing Functional and Operational Management of the Public Works operational includes but not limited to Streets, Water, Sewer and Drainage. This includes coordinating and supervising personnel and all related activities to construction, maintenance and repair of streets and sewers, snow removal, field customer service activities, and other public works infrastructure assignments. Responsibilities and assignments are broad in scope and require independent judgment on complex issues that are interpretive and evaluative in nature. This position requires significant accountability and decision making responsibility. Preference will be given to applicants possessing a Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, civil engineering, or closely related field. A minimum of five years of experience in a Public Works Department or related industry with a thorough knowledge of skilled maintenance and construction work. A minimum of three years of supervisory experience coordinating a range of activities undertaken by others that involve directing, monitoring, and evaluating performance of staff in a lead capacity. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Proficiency with current computer software systems, including email, calendar programs, job specific software, and customer service systems preferred or within the first six months of employment. Successfully candidate will be required to obtain a Illinois Class B CDL or a permit with the ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months and an IEPA Class C Operators License or have the ability to obtain Operator in Training (OIT) certificate in 12 months. Must successfully pass full background and motor vehicle record check including pre-employment drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Illinois Department of Transportation.
