THE POSITION Incumbents in the Equipment Mechanic IV class are assigned a variety of mechanical tasks of a specific or limited nature. Under supervision, they will service and perform mechanical repairs on City vehicles and a wide variety of motorized equipment; perform tire repairs; perform good housekeeping and safety practices in the work areas; and will do related work as required. More complex mechanical and diagnostic problems are referred to the journey class, the Combination Equipment Mechanic. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS General Knowledge of: instrument tune-up, front-end alignment equipment, and power and hand tools used in the repair and reconditioning of automotive equipment; automotive electrical, fuel, and cooling systems; hydraulic pumps, hydraulic motors, and control valves.
Ability to: recognize and diagnose certain mechanical disorders; improvise and make repairs under adverse field conditions; carry out oral and written directions. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Equivalent to one (1) year of experience as a Mechanic I and completion of specified training classes as determined by the Equipment Supervisor.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Possession of a valid Class "B" California Driver License prior to completion of the probationary period and thereafter.
