The Village of Woodridge is accepting applications to fill a temporary Engineering Intern position in the Public Works Department. This is a 40-hour per week position during the summer with a potential for additional hours during the school year and during winter break. The position pays $12.00-$15.00 per hour DOQ/DOE.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES The goal of the position is to provide a broad overview and exposure into the operations of a municipal Public Works Department and direct experience with various engineering functions. Opportunities may include the following activities:
- Assist in the bid process, including drafting bid and request for proposal (RFP) documents, and assembling contracts;
- Assist in design engineering and inspection/construction engineering of various capital and maintenance improvement projects including tasks such as surveying and project layout, assembling contract quantities, taking measurements and reviewing/verifying payment requests;
- Assisting in completing various Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) forms and documents;
- Attendance at operations and engineering staff meetings;
- Assist in communication with contractors, consultants, and residents including drafting written correspondence;
- GIS and/or AUTOCAD work including basic drafting, scanning, and geo-referencing as built plans as well as field data collection.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- The ideal Engineering Intern candidate will be currently pursuing a degree in civil engineering, or a closely related field, and have completed at least one academic year of college coursework.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with contractors, consultants, and residents.
- The ability to read plans and general survey experience and computer proficiency (including CADD and/or GIS) is also necessary.
- A valid driver’s license is required. The position will be required to drive a personal vehicle on occasion for Village business (mileage reimbursement provided).
- Outdoor work, occasionally in adverse weather conditions is also required.

Interviews will begin in March and the position will be open until filled. A successful candidate will be required to complete a criminal background check and pre-employment medical exam, including a drug screen.
