We are currently recruiting for a motivated, results-oriented Engineering Project Manager to join our Engineering and Public Works Department. Become an integral part of our team! JOB SUMMARY: This position manages the implementation of a variety of capital projects, recommends hiring and manages consultants on a variety of professional consulting agreements; performs professional engineering tasks. JOB DUTIES: Plans and implements capital improvement projects, including the preparation of engineering plans and bidding documents. Oversees construction management of village capital improvement projects. Issues Request for Qualifications and Proposals, interviews consulting firms and makes recommendations to award the contract to a consultant. Reviews competitive bids and makes recommendation to award the contract to a contractor. Prepares and evaluates future capital improvement projects for approval by the village Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Committee. Prepares committee reports and presents these reports at village committee meetings as required or as directed by the Engineering Division Manager or the Director of Engineering and Public Works. Recommends solutions and revisions of existing projects, to the Engineering Division Manager. Works directly with residents and businesses impacted by village projects and is responsible to provide interactive public relations on projects with significant impacts to the public. Acts as the division lead for the hiring of engineering technicians, interns and independent contractors. Performs other duties as assigned. Works directly with representatives of other departments, including the assistant village manager and directors, on issues relating to public improvement projects or to provide expertise as needed. Oversees computer applications for engineering related functions. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. A minimum of five years of experience in the field of civil engineering, such as that gained with a Village or City Engineering Department, a contractor or consultant specializing in engineering design for public works improvement and land development. Licensed Professional Engineer with the State of Illinois. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Proficiency with current computer software systems, including email, calendar programs, job specific software, and customer service systems preferred or within the first six months of employment. Considerable knowledge of civil engineering principles. Working knowledge of contract requirements. Working knowledge of construction methods, materials and techniques. Considerable ability to design and implement public improvement projects. Ability to master appropriate codes and ordinances in a short period of time. Ability to coordinate and oversee the activities of the consultants and contractors. Ability to teach and encourage new ideas. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: High levels of noise for an extended period. Extremes of temperature for prolonged periods or abrupt changes in temperature. Exposure to fumes or disagreeable odors. Exposure to inclement weather conditions. Necessity to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
