HOURS OF WORK: 4/10’s, 7am-6pm, M-Th GENERAL PURPOSE: Performs engineering work in the research, design and contracting of waterworks utility projects; and performs related duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in the use of hydraulic analysis and asset management software for the evaluation of potable water distribution system hydraulic capacity, operational efficiency, and water quality; demonstrate the ability to develop capital improvement programs for water systems; formulate rehabilitation and replacement programs, including cost estimation and project phasing and scheduling, using asset management tools to optimize life cycle cost; have experience writing reports detailing engineering evaluations and presentation of project technical information to stakeholders clearly and concisely; and have experience in the construction, calibration, and use of large hydraulic models for analyzing water distribution systems. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a closely related field and one year of professional engineering experience; or an equivalent amount of professional engineering work experience.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Principles and practices of civil engineering, including design and construction; engineering mathematics; construction materials, methods and equipment; micro-computer engineering applications; applicable codes, regulations and standards relating to water utility engineering. ABILITY TO: Perform detailed analyses of designs, specifications and plans; apply engineering principles and techniques to evaluate and solve civil engineering problems of varying difficulty; make or check complex engineering computations quickly and accurately; coordinate and review the work of technical subordinates; use a micro-computer in engineering applications; exercise sound, independent judgment in performing assigned projects; deal tactfully and effectively with the public, District staff, engineering firms, contractors, developers, manufacturers and others; prepare clear, concise and accurate engineering reports and documents.
