The City of Tacoma is recruiting for the Appointive position of Assistant Division Manager in the Solid Waste Management Division of the Environmental Services Department. The Assistant Division Manager is responsible for the management of onsite operations of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Division. Responsibilities include:Day-to-day management of personnel and operations.Regulatory compliance.Customer service.Oversight of on-site operations to include safety and maintenance at: Transfer Station, Scale House, Household Hazardous Waste Facility, Recycling Center and closed City Landfill Environmental Services. The Environmental Services Department meets citizen's expectations for service, protects the environment and community values, and complies with regulatory requirements. This position plays an important role in achieving many of the City's key goals related to sustainability and customer service. The City of Tacoma is unique in that we manage our own Solid Waste and this function is not provided by private businesses. The Solid Waste Division employees 165 team members and provides service to approximately 58,500 residential customers and about 5,000 commercial customers. Services offered include garbage, recycling, and organic waste recycling. The On-site Operations Assistant Division Manager oversees 50 employees who work at the Solid Waste Management site. This includes the operation of a Recovery and Transfer Center (Transfer Station) that was constructed in 2012. Services provided at the Recovery and Transfer Center include self-haul services for garbage and organic wastes as well as diversion opportunities for large metal items, mattresses, cardboard and several other materials. The site also houses a Household Hazardous Waste facility, Recycling Center, appliance recycling facilities. These facilities are located on the site of a closed landfill, with environmental systems in place that must be monitored and maintained. QUALIFICATIONS: An equivalent combination to: LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
