Description Of Primary Purpose: Operates the Ultra-Filtration Membrane Water Treatment plant on an assigned shift to ensure continued regulatory compliance by providing safe potable water to residents. The assigned shifts could include 6AM-2PM, 2PM-10PM, and 10PM-6AM. Position is also responsible for routine and preventative maintenance of Water Plant and associated Water Reservoir Stations, sampling, and other functions assigned by management. Education: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Course work in water/wastewater treatment, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, plumbing and/or a related facilities course is preferred. Experience: Two years of experience in water/wastewater treatment processes or related mechanical/technical field experience preferred. Certification or License: A valid Illinois driver's license or equivalent is required and an Illinois EPA Water Plant Operator's Certification, Class A, preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Proficiencies: Because they often work alone, Operators must be able to respond to unexpected emergencies by swiftly analyzing the situation and responding accordingly. Must be self-motivated and able to work without supervision. The Operator must also demonstrate the desire to keep abreast of new developments in the field and to adapt as new technology is applied to the water treatment process. Operators often come into contact with the public and must be able to project a professional image as a representative of the City. Must be able to interpret the information provided by the Plant's telemetry system and formulate an appropriate plan of operation. Must exercise good judgment, make responsible decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures and have an ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats on related matters. |
