The County of Riverside Department of Waste Resources has an exciting opportunity for an Equipment Operator II! The Equipment Operator II will be tasked to skillfully operate motorized construction and maintenance heavy equipment in support of landfill site operations. The Equipment Operator II responsibilities require advanced training and complex forms of manipulation of heavy equipment such as tracked Bulldozers, Compactors, Scrapers, Motor Graders, Excavators, and Trucks with an attached trailer. The selected candidate will use equipment to push, compact and cover municipal solid waste. Additionally, the incumbent will operate the water truck for dust control, as well as loaders, backhoes, and other equipment for road maintenance/grading work. The most competitive candidates will have extensive experience operating a D8, D9 or D10 or comparable size bulldozer in a landfill setting. The incumbent will work a 9/80 schedule Monday through Saturday (Rotating shifts as needed) and will support the Engineering Operations Section out of Badlands in Moreno Valley. Examples of Essential Duties • Operates tracked and/or wheeled motorized construction equipment such as loaders, excavators, motor graders, scrapers, refuse compactors, oil mixers and dozers within required tolerance in the maintenance and construction of roads, landfills, flood control channels and other public work facilities. • Prepares, grades, and shapes new county roads, landfills, flood control channels; checks and sets grades. • Works from survey reference marks, plans, and specifications; clears roads, channels and other facilities of storm debris and damage; constructs and repairs storm drains, culverts, catch basins, and concrete gutters. • Services and maintains assigned equipment; may operate low-bed or trucks with trailers in hauling equipment or materials. • Uses a variety of hand and power tools in performing work. Recruiting Guidelines Experience: Two years experience in the maintenance or construction of public work facilities such as roads, airports, landfills, or flood control channels which included one year operating tracked and/or wheeled motorized construction equipment as a primary duty.
