The Village of Bensenville (pop. 18,352) seeks a Full-time Maintenance Technician in the Utilities Division to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the reconstruction, repair, and maintenance of the Village’s water distribution system. The position is FLSA non-exempt and within the AFSCME bargaining unit. The successful candidate will have proven experience within the construction field and a history of working efficiently in an individual and team setting. This position requires response to emergency and non-emergency situations outside normal business hours, including snow removal.

Maintenance Technician position essential functions include:

• Safely and efficiently perform maintenance activities to our water distribution system including water main break repairs, valve exercising and repair, buffalo box repair, and fire hydrant repair and flushing.
• Accurately identify the necessary valves to close for water main repairs.
• Safely install and repair meter boxes, meters and service lines.
• Safely conduct pressure testing of water system.
• Properly acquire water samples for testing purposes.
• Locate Village utilities.
• Operate heavy equipment.
• Restore parkway after water main and sewer line repair.
• Perform minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
• Repair manholes, catch basins, and inlets.
• Clean, televise, maintain and repair storm and sanitary sewer systems.
• Safely perform sewer line repairs.
• Basic knowledge of SCADA System.
• Manage duties through computerized Work Management System (Cartégraph).
• Assist in Snow and Ice Management Program.
• Follow safety rules and guidelines and lead others in the same.

The ideal applicant has experience and knowledge in Public Works functions – specifically water system distribution. A sense of humor with a "can-do" attitude and a style that supports learning on the job, teamwork, collaboration and positive relationships are essential attributes. In keeping with the Village’s commitment to customer service, the Maintenance Technician will think beyond the situation, be flexible within reason, work closely with other Village departments, anticipate problems before they develop, and provide world-class customer service. The position requires strong verbal, written, interpersonal, analytical, and computer skills.

The ideal candidate has minimum GED or High School Diploma, Associate’s Degree preferred. We seek an applicant with a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar position. The job requires outdoor physical activity with frequent lifting and/or moving up to 75 pounds. Valid State of Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) must be maintained throughout employment. Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) Class B with airbrake and tanker endorsements preferred and required within six months of hire.
