The Deputy Director of Public Works/City Engineer provides executive level support to the Director of Public Works while overseeing the Engineering Division. The Public Works Department has five divisions: Administration, Engineering, Fleet Management, Integrated Waste Management and Operations & Maintenance. The Public Works/Engineering Division is responsible for the inspection and construction management of streets, storm drains, traffic signals, traffic signs, pavement markings, construction projects, maintenance projects; planning, design and project management of the City’s 5-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP); as well as annexations and assessment districts. The Deputy Director must be a seasoned engineer capable of performing the statutory duties of the City Engineer as defined under California Government Code requiring a valid registration as a Professional Engineer with the State of California. In addition to a registration as a P.E. the individual must also have a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field; and at least five years of progressively responsible civil engineering and public works experience, at least two of which were in a management capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
