This newly created position in our municipal electric utility is responsible for management of the Electric Line Division and Meter & Communication Division, in accordance with the Municipal Code(s), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC), city policies, collective bargaining agreements, and all codes and standards that apply to electric utility and metering operations. Supervise the daily activities of union and non-union employees, establish and enforce performance and safety standards, approve timesheets/payroll, analyze performance and efficiency, and recommend process improvements. Project management includes coordination of divisional projects to ensure efficiency, timeliness, and within budget execution of work, which could include oversight of contractors. The position investigates service concerns directly with the public, coordinates monthly electric services safety meetings, and develops and monitors budgets. Reports to the Electric Services Manager, and may assume those duties when assigned. Requirements A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, business, or closely related field is strongly preferred (or ability to obtain one within 6 years of hire), with eight years of electrical utility, metering, or communication system maintenance and construction experience, and five years of supervisory experience. Exceptional oral and written communication skills to build rapport with subordinates, co-workers, contractors, management, elected officials, outside agencies, other governmental units, and the public are essential, as well as the ability to foster a positive team oriented environment. Computer skills with Word, Excel, Outlook, GIS applications, Utility Billing systems, Asset Management/Work Order systems, Infor/Lawson (enterprise financial and accounting system), or similar software are required. Strong fundamental math skills, possession of a valid driver’s license, and the ability to carry a communication device to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week are also required. If selected, successful completion of a background check, physical, drug screen, and functional capacity evaluation are required.
