Working with the Senior Utilities Engineer, the Utilities Engineer's focus is on the water, wastewater, and reclaimed water utilities. The City of Lacey's Water Resources division is a close-knit group of individuals who work on diverse and challenging projects. The Water Resources division provides engineering support for the City's water, wastewater, stormwater, and reclaimed water utilities. With 21 water sources and 52 sewer lift stations, Lacey offers its Engineers exposure to a wide variety of engineering disciplines, including fluid mechanics, electrical, process control, water treatment/quality, construction, project management, and planning. Capital projects over the last six years include 6 lift station retrofits, 7 new lift stations, a water pump station upgrade, 2 Comprehensive Plans, a Reclaimed Water recharge facility, and miles of replaced water mains. Upcoming projects include new and replacement water wells, lift station rehabilitations, wastewater main replacements, water storage, water treatment facility upgrades, water main replacements, and stormwater improvements. Water Resources staff are interested in innovative ideas and technical advances and are dedicated to providing exceptional service to their customers. For example, the SCADA system was recently upgraded, whereby the new software provides SCADA information and analysis to employee desks. In addition, Operations and Maintenance staff can access the SCADA system via smart phones to operate, manage, and monitor the system. The City of Lacey provides water and wastewater services throughout the Urban Growth Area (UGA) and the City's population continues to grow steadily. The City provides training for staff on professional development and issues impacting water, wastewater, stormwater, and reclaimed water. |
