Work Times/Days: 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday - Friday The purpose of this position is to maintain and manage the City's landscape and natural resources. This is a supervisory position directing through subordinate staff, the City's Landscaping Services division. The employee is responsible for directing the horticultural, floricultural, grounds maintenance, landscape programs. The employee will provide technical support, supervision, and training to personnel engaged in routine landscape maintenance by training staff of hazardous working environments; instructing crews on landscape construction and repair sites, and work method changes; assisting departments in the appraisal of plant health; reviewing site plans; and responding to weather-related emergencies. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, supervises and reviews all work of subordinates by scheduling workloads, visiting job sites; inspecting work; reviewing job reports, and communicating with crew chiefs. Plans and manages materials and equipment requirements for maintenance work; responsible for employee work standards, conduct and performance; interviews and hires employees, and coordinates employee training requirements. Plans and coordinates work with other agencies, utility companies and/or outside contractors. Receives and resolves questions and complaints from the general public by responding to calls from citizens; visiting complaint sites; and receiving and routing service requests. Enforces and reviews city work policies by attending meetings and planning classes. Monitors work plan progress. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Two-year associate's degree Three or more years of related experience. North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License This position will be subject to on-call/recall after hours work and extended hours. This position is critical to emergency operations and will report to work in spite of or because of an emergency or disaster event Individuals selected for conditional offer of employment must pass City of Durham drug and alcohol testing, background check, and physical examination (if applicable).
