The Larimer County Engineering department offers engaging opportunities for professional development in the ever evolving field of Civil Engineering. Larimer County is increasingly aware of the need to attract and retain the best people for their workforce and we are seeking an innovative, flexible and skilled mid-level engineer to join our team. The following statements are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities of the job. The organization retains the right to modify or change the duties and responsibilities of the job at any time. This position will focus on the County’s road and bridge system and will work closely with the other capital Projects Engineers in the department. The County has approximately 1,000 miles of roads, 200 major structures and 480 minor structures in the unincorporated county that we are responsible for the ongoing maintenance and improvements. The ideal candidate will be familiar with roadway design, repair methods and project management, construction methods, inspection methods, CDOT specifications and policies, AASHTO specifications, general hydraulic analysis and general environmental requirements. The ideal candidate will be able to perform not only office duties but fairly extensive field work including inspection of existing roads and bridges, and field engineering duties during new construction. This position will be involved in other areas of the engineering department. We manage approximately 60 Improvement Districts which entails assisting both residential and commercial subdivisions with improvements and ongoing maintenance to the roads in their subdivision. In addition to the road and bridge system we have the opportunity to collaborate with and provide engineering support for projects with many other county departments. These projects range from designing and managing the construction of phased closures at the county operated landfill to designing and overseeing the construction of trails and trailheads for our Natural Resources Department.
