GENERAL SUMMARY
The Assistant City Engineer, with general guidance provided by the City Engineer: will manage the design and construction of City CIP projects and will review private residential and commercial development projects.
SUPERVISION
General guidance provided by the City Engineer. Supervises the Engineering, Plan Review & Records Specialist and the Storm Water Specialist. In the absence of the City Engineer, the Assistant City Engineer will assume management of the Engineering Division, including supervision of Engineering Division staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct and Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
2. Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance policies and procedures.
3. Provide timely, accurate and thorough Performance Reviews for supervised employees.
4. Fulfills all the duties and qualifications of the Project Engineer position (see Project Engineer job description for full range of duties, responsibilities and qualifications for this position).
5. Review plans and specifications for public works, private development, and drainage projects.
6. Prepare, review and update City design guidelines, ordinances, standards, specifications and details for water, sanitary sewer, paving, drainage design, grading, floodplain management, and erosion control.
7. Assist, manage and participate in the development and administration of the Engineering Division annual operations budget including capital improvement funding; direct the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; direct the monitoring of and approve expenditures; direct and implement adjustments as necessary.
8. Using consultants, manage plan, specification, and estimate preparation for City-funded CIP related projects.
9. Perform site observations of drainage complaints and/or improvements during rainfall events. Suggest and design improvements to resolve these complaints.
10. In the absence of the City Engineer, act as the City's floodplain administrator.
11. Provide responsible staff assistance to the City Engineer; act as the City Engineer in his absence; prepare and present reports and other necessary correspondence.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering.
- 5 years of increasingly responsible civil/municipal engineering experience.
- Two years of supervisory/management experience.
OR
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering.
- A Master's degree in Civil Engineering or other technical field.
- 4 years of increasingly responsible civil/municipal engineering experience.
- Two years of supervisory/management experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Possession of an active certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer, with specialization in the field of civil engineering, issued by the Texas Board of Registration of Professional Engineers; OR
Possession of similar registration issued by another state, with the condition that the successful applicant obtain an active certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer, with specialization in the field of civil engineering, issued by the Texas Board of Registration for Professional Engineers within six months of employment as a condition of continued employment.
WORK SCHEDULE
Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m., to 5:00 p.m., with some overtime as needed
