Under direction, performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring and related apparatus, components of the Waste Water Treatment Plant, water utility, traffic signals, sanitary and storm collections systems and street light installations, and to conduct electrical inspections of city buildings.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – Duties may included but are not limited to the following: Install, troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits, motor switches, pumps, transformers, air compressors, office machines, traffic controllers, air conditioners, air conditioners' pressure switches, intercoms, telephone relays, lighting system underground conduits and other electrical components. Troubleshoot, maintain and replace electro mechanical, solid state and micro processor controllers; replace and revise relays and wiring; Check plans for accuracy; inspect the work of electrical contractors for compliance with plans and specifications. Design electrical controls; wire and install controls. Perform common preventive and corrective maintenance. Maintain records and reports. Purchase supplies and materials as needed. Participate in the city's stand-by program as required. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other city employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
When assigned to City Facilities/Infrastructure
Install, maintain, repair, and inspect a wide variety of electrical components in the city's buildings, recreation areas, and traffic control. Install new traffic signal equipment such as poles, controllers and heads. Check plans for traffic signal construction accuracy; monitor and inspect the construction of signals for compliance with plans and specifications. Inspect street light installations and electrical components of city buildings and buildings under construction.
When assigned to Utility Division(s)
Install maintain, repair and inspect a wide variety of electrical components in the city's waste water treatment plant, lift stations, storm drains, water wells, and water storage tank facilities; install and maintain well starters and related automatic control equipment such as high-voltage circuit breakers, air switchers, control wires and protective relays.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Six years of increasingly responsible electrical repair and maintenance experience including two years of journey level experience.
Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized classroom training in the electrical or a related field.
