This Utilities Operations and Maintenance Superintendent position oversees the operations of the departments wastewater facilities, all mechanical maintenance within the departments water and wastewater facilities and maintenance of all the city’s emergency stationary generators. There are approximately 60 employees within 3 unique work sections. These three sections maintain an operating budget of over $5 million. CIPs and MYOPS are also a part of funding some of these sections activities. The Mechanical Maintenance section maintains all of the mechanical equipment for DOUs Water, Sewer and Drainage pumping facilities. This includes over 150 wastewater pumping facilities, 11 water reservoirs, 27 wells, and 2 Water Treatment plants. This section employs the classifications of Machinist Supervisors, Machinist, Machinist Helpers and Senior Maintenance Workers. The Emergency Generator Maintenance section is responsible for taking care of approximately 103 emergency generators and 18 engine driven pumps. This program spans the entire City and covers all of the city’s stationary emergency generators. This section employs the classifications of Supervising Generator Tech, Senior Generator Tech, Generator Tech. The Wastewater Operation sections is responsible for operating the city’s wastewater facilities in accordance with all relevant regulations including managing the city’s combined wastewater flows. This section also has the responsibility to take the lead in storm events planning and response for the departments wastewater/ drainage pumping and treatment facilities. This section employs the classifications of Supervising Plant Operator, Plant Operator and Junior Plant Operator.
