Our client, the District of Columbia Department of Public Works (DPW) is seeking a Fleet Management Administrator. The Fleet Management Administration (FMA) is a major component of the Department of Public Works, and keeps District government going by repairing and maintaining more than 3,000 vehicles used for all city services except police, fire, corrections and schools. FMA also fuels all 6,000 DC government vehicles, including school buses, fire and trash trucks, and street sweepers. The Administrator manages the citywide fleet management program through subordinate organizational components that provide maintenance, fueling, parts, and acquisition services to DPW as well as other components of the District of Columbia government.
Responsibilities The Administrator has full responsibility and authority for the planning, directing, coordinating and controlling of all the activities, operations and programs which are generated as a result of the functional responsibilities of a citywide fleet management program. The Administrator plans and directs the long-term, short-term and day-to-day operations of the Administration to ensure that the major programs are implemented as efficiently and effectively as possible. The Administrator is also responsible for the management and administration of the District’s fleet management program focused on the following organizational activities:
The Fleet Management Administrator manages these activities through several layers of managers and supervisors that have day-to-day supervisory responsibility for a specific program or program segment.
Requirements This position requires that the selected individual possesses full technical and functional knowledge of a wide range of issues that impact a comprehensive program of fleet management practices, policies and approaches. This full technical and functional knowledge of fleet management programs and approaches is critical to managing and directing the various programs and program segments in the Administration. This person should also possess experience in managing large and complex organizations with multiple layers of managers and supervisors. In addition, this position requires broad based financial management/budgeting skills in order to manage cost containment, complete financial projections and to manage a complex operating budget. The Administrator should possess broad based performance management and improvement skills in order to ensure a continuous learning organization.
