Senior Civil/Environmental Engineer Department of Public Utilities - Water & Wastewater
Naperville's Water and Wastewater Utility is one of the state’s largest combined utility systems, operating both a water distribution system and a sanitary district with wastewater treatment. The City now seeks a Senior Civil-Environmental Engineer for the utility’s Civil & Environmental Engineering and Construction Management division. This individual will represent the water utility’s interests while coordinating with other City departments (e.g., Transportation & Development, Public Works, our Electric utility, etc.) or with other governmental agencies (e.g., DuPage and Will County, IDOT, IL Tollway, the Forest Preserve, etc.) on their projects. Job duties will include frequent local travel to city facilities and job sites within Naperville. Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include the development and updating of sanitary sewer and water system hydraulic models; providing resident engineering for major utility construction projects; the review of engineering drawings of subdivisions and commercial development plans for water mains and sanitary sewer system construction, material design and layout; performing hydraulic network analysis of water distribution and sanitary sewer systems; and designing and preparing construction documents for water distribution, sanitary sewer and even electrical duct bank projects. Qualifications: At a minimum, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, and must possess a minimum of four years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience. The position also requires a State of Illinois P.E. license, a valid State of Illinois driver’s license and a good driving record. Strong skills in managing projects, in oral and written communications, and in problem-solving & conflict resolution are essential to success in this position. Applicants must display proven abilities to prepare comprehensive technical reports, and to read, analyze & interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, contract documents & specifications.
Ideal candidates will possess experience developing hydraulic models of large sanitary sewer and water systems. He/she will also possess experience with design and construction of water and wastewater pumping stations, wastewater treatment plants, water mains, and sewer mains. He/ she will have multi-discipline knowledge of general construction, hydraulics, electrical, mechanical, site work, construction codes, and utilities. Skills in Autodesk software are preferred, as are those in water and sewer hydraulic modeling software and/or electrical design software.
